In a heart clinic

In this program and in a well-designed location, the students learn about what is done in a heart clinic. They work with the equipment involved in heart tests and learn more about their heart and how to keep their hearts healthy. The curriculum included in this document is suitable for two-hour workshop with grade 5-8 participants.

It is recommended that a cardiologist and a cardiac technician join the executive group of the scenario.

The students, in groups of 3 to 5, inter the cardiologist office (a room decorated as a cardiologist office) where a cardiologist will visit them. (Figure 1).

On a smart TV they would learn about most famous cardiologists and heart surgeons and about heart diseases (Figure 2).

Probes of a complete system, which has been designed in the CCK, are connected to the students’ body (one after another) with which they can hear the sound of their heartbeats from two big loud speakers and watch their ECGs on the smart TV (Figure 3).

Then they go to play a game. The equipment of this game has been designed in the CCK. In this game each student spins a handle as fast as he/she can. Spinning the handle would decrease the dark-red level in the left cylinder shown on the smart TV and increase the bright-red level in the right cylinder. The faster spinning, the more decrease in the dark-red level and more increase in the bright-red, the student spins the handle. The student who, in a given time, makes the highest level for the bright-red level will be the winner (Figure 4).
